St. Mary’s Cemetery has a small area in the center of the cemetery that includes a grave monument and a recently installed columbarium. It is this area that needs a design that provides smooth access and pleasant surroundings. The scope of this project included design for accessibility, aesthetic appeal, a durable construction and modularity for expansion of future columbariums.
With a limited budget in mind, the client desired two different options for the design with a more involved, higher-cost option, and a more basic option to establish access to the structures.
With all phases completed, this cemetery design will be minimal maintenance and create a centralized, welcoming space for visitors and families to visited their loved ones. A bench in the middle allows for a space to reflect facing either the statue or the columbariums. The accessible walkways will be ADA compliant and the paver selection allows for rapid drainage of the site. The lack of plantings other than grass ensures that the maintenance for the small crew lies only in cutting the grass around the outer edges.
